The Department of English was established in the year 1970. The BA English programme was started in 1974. The department was upgraded into a PG department in the year 1980. A vocational course, Functional English, was started in 1997. The department became a research centre in 2015.

The English Language Laboratory has 12 computers and audio-visual aids. The department also has a library with 3398 books.

Our department staff take classes not only for the BA English and MA English students, but also for around 2400 students of all the I and II UG classes.
