Department of Zoology

The department of zoology was established in 1972 and raised to PG department in the year 2012 and to a full-fledged research department in 2014. The department is an excellent centre of teaching – learning accompanied with audio-visual techniques, well-equipped laboratories, museum with rare collection of specimens and a well – resourced library. Separate UG, PG and allied laboratories are available with instruments fulfilling the needs of research scholars, funded by RUSA, FIST and STATE. There are 10 regular teaching faculties and one guest lecture, out of which 10 of them are Ph. D holders and 5 recognized research guides. Faculty members of our department are actively involved in various research areas such as Aquaculture, Vermiculture, Sericulture,Bioinformatics, Enzymology, Microbiology, Toxicology, Entomology, etc. The department of zoology is one of the oldest and well-established departments in our college.

About

An average of 60 UG and 15 PG graduates come out in flying colours every year. Our students get university ranks and medals under M.S. University almost every year. They also participate in various inter-college competitions and win prizes. Our research scholars also present papers in seminars and conferences and have won best paper awards. First week of October is celebrated as wild life week every year with competitions. Students from all other departments also participate and get prizes. In this way awareness is created about wild life and their importance. Apart from this, association meetings are also conducted, inviting renowned speakers. Many National Seminars are organized by our department. A Biannual magazine “ZOODOC” is prepared and our students contribute much to it. Zoologists may work in a variety of settings including universities, research institutes, museums, zoos, aquariums and government agencies. The scope of zoology also extends to interdisciplinary fields such as environmental science, genetics and Neuroscience.
