The Botany Department was established in the Rani Anna Government College for Women as an independent department in 2012, in which post- graduate teaching was started as early as 2013 and research in 2018. We have 9 faculty members and 2 non-teaching faculty members in our department. All teachers are Ph. D. holders. They are engaged in various valuable and innovative research projects. The main thrust areas of research are Plant Physiology, Environmental Botany, Phytochemistry, Systemic Botany and Allelopathy. The department of Botany offers B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. programmes. The department has produced 12 Ph.D. so far. About 130 research papers have been published.
The department focuses on teaching-learning and appropriately combines classical teaching with innovative digital teaching tools to augment students’ understanding of the subjects. The department has organized 4 National seminars, 2 Workshops, 3 Herbal Expos and 1 Millet Exhibition. The department also provides training to students from various fields and invites eminent scientists to deliver popular scientific talks very often. The departmental library has a significant number of books and subscribes journals. The department also maintains a Star Garden and Green House. The department has signed MoUs with renowned organizations such as Deepak Lab, Tenkasi, MGP Agro-farm, Alangulam and Sri Lakshmi Siddha Clinic Thachanallur.
