Geology is the study of the earth and its natural resources. The discipline of geology involves the study of earth materials and its activity. Geologist research all the concepts of natural disasters, types of rock, groundwater, minerals like Gold, diamonds, silver, oil, platinum, iron, gemstone, aluminium and coal which are natural resources available from the Earth. These minerals serve as the premise for some business enterprises. Thus, the study of geology plays an important role in modern life and civilization.

The department of geology was established in June 2015. The Department has a good infrastructure with four teaching and 1 non-teaching faculty members, a UG lab with a separate petrology, mineralogy, crystallography and palaeontology lab and a library. The department is well equipped with basic as well as advanced facilities including sophisticated instruments like Petrological microscope, dumpy level etc.,

The department has a unique collection of rocks, minerals and fossils in its museum and every year final year students are given the opportunity to visit mining places located in different parts of Tamil Nadu. The progress of the department is highly admirable.

The Geology Department admit 40 students in UG every year. The admission procedure is based on merit according to the guidelines given by the Government of Tamil Nadu. The experienced and talented faculty with advance teaching, learning, library and laboratory facility in the campus make graduation in the Geology department an exceptional experience.
